What a B2B Google Ads Agency Should Actually Own

Google Ads gives you the opportunity to appear when somebody is already searching for a product, provider, category, competitor or problem.

The difficult part is deciding which of those searches are commercially useful — and feeding Smart Bidding the right conversion signals so the algorithm learns to find more of them.

Search terms report with relevant and irrelevant search terms highlighted

Show Up For The Searches That Matter

Not every relevant-looking keyword represents a potential customer. Someone searching around your category may be researching, looking for a job, trying to log into a product, comparing alternatives or actively looking for a provider. Broad match, phrase match and exact match all pull in very different intent, and Performance Max will happily blend them together.

We structure campaigns around the searches that are actually worth paying for — separating brand, non-brand and competitor conquesting so budget, match types and impression share targets can be managed independently.

    Know What People Actually Searched

Keywords are only the starting point. Google can match them to many different search queries — especially with broad match, Smart Bidding and Performance Max deciding where your budget goes.

We continuously review search-term data with n-gram analysis to understand where your ads are really appearing, build negative keyword lists and brand exclusions, and identify new commercially useful searches.

Google Ads conversion actions and conversion values interface

Give Google The Right Conversion Signals

Google optimizes toward the outcomes you tell it are valuable. If every form fill, page visit or weak conversion is treated equally, Google can become very good at generating the wrong kind of result.

We define primary and secondary conversion actions around what matters commercially and use enhanced conversions, GCLID capture and offline conversion imports to connect ad clicks with qualified leads, opportunities and closed revenue in your CRM.

Why leads aren't enough as conversions

Optimize For Lead Quality — Not Just CPL

A cheap lead is not necessarily a good lead. The campaign can look efficient inside Google Ads while sales receives companies that are too small, irrelevant enquiries or people who misunderstood the offer.

We look beyond cost per lead and use conversion value rules, tCPA and tROAS targets based on pipeline value — not raw form fills — so Smart Bidding optimizes toward the campaigns, searches and audience signals that actually generate opportunities.

Flow from Google search to ad to a dedicated landing page

Match The Landing Page To The Search

Someone searching for a specific solution should not automatically land on the same generic page as every other visitor. We build and optimize dedicated landing pages around the search intent, message and conversion path of each important campaign.

Message match between the search query, the responsive search ad assets and the landing page headline is what lifts conversion rate and Ad Relevance — the visitor should immediately understand what you offer, why it is relevant and what they should do next.

Feedback loop from Google Ads to CRM to qualified lead and back

    Connect Marketing And Sales Feedback

Google can see the click and the website conversion. Your sales team knows which leads actually progress. We connect those two perspectives.

Lead quality, company fit, opportunities, customer outcomes and sales feedback flow back through offline conversion imports and influence keyword priorities, negative keywords, bid strategy targets, audience signals, landing pages and conversion values.

    Campaign Management

We build, run and optimize the account.

Campaign structure, keyword match types, bid strategies (tCPA, tROAS, Maximize Conversions), budgets, negative keyword lists, responsive search ad asset testing, auction insights and day-to-day optimization. We manage brand, competitor conquesting and non-brand intent campaigns separately because they serve different purposes and should not automatically be judged by the same metrics.

    Search & Keyword Strategy

We decide which searches are worth paying for.

Keyword research is only the beginning. We combine keyword data with search-term and n-gram analysis, your product knowledge and sales feedback to understand which searches are close enough to your offer — and which should be excluded. The goal is not maximum traffic. It is useful demand.

    Landing Page Creation

The ad gets the click. The landing page does the rest.

We design and build campaign-specific landing pages rather than sending every search to the same generic website page. Search intent, message match, proof and conversion path are considered together, with conversion tracking, enhanced conversions and GCLID capture wired in from the start. Campaign management and landing-page optimization sit under one roof.

Why a B2B Google Ads Agency Can't Run One Playbook

A product-led SaaS company with hundreds of monthly trials should not be managed like an enterprise company that generates five opportunities per quarter.

The right setup depends on search demand, market maturity, customer value, sales model and conversion volume.

    Product-Led SaaS

    Optimize past the free trial

Self-service SaaS with high conversion volume

A SaaS company may generate enough free-trial signups for Google to optimize campaigns efficiently. But the cheapest trial is not necessarily the best trial.

Where enough data exists, we connect later outcomes — such as activation or paid subscriptions — back to the original campaign.

This helps distinguish searches that create activity from searches that create customers.

    Sales-Led B2B

    When every qualified lead matters

Enterprise and sales-led businesses with low conversion volume

Enterprise and sales-led businesses usually generate fewer conversions and have longer sales cycles. That changes how the account needs to be managed.

Search relevance becomes more important, conversion signals need to be selected carefully and CRM feedback becomes essential for understanding which campaigns are creating real sales opportunities.

The account is judged on qualified pipeline rather than on form submissions inside Google Ads.

    Long sales cycles
    Qualified leads
    CRM feedback

    Existing Account Restructuring

Lots of clicks. Not enough good leads.

Accounts that look healthy in Google Ads but disappoint sales

One of the most common B2B Google Ads problems is an account that appears healthy inside Google Ads but performs poorly once the leads reach sales.

We investigate the account in sequence: Are the ads appearing for the right searches? Are the conversions real? Is Google being trained toward commercially useful users? Do the landing pages match the search? What happens to the leads after they enter the CRM?

Only then do we decide what needs restructuring.

    New Google Ads Account

    Building the account from zero

    First-time B2B search advertisers

When a B2B company has never run Google Ads before, the first job is not to launch as many keywords as possible.

We first assess where meaningful search demand exists. Campaigns are then structured around closely related search intents, with appropriate ads, landing pages and conversion paths for each.

The early months are used to learn which searches deserve more budget and which should be excluded.

    New accounts
    Search demand
    Controlled learning

Google Ads works best when the strategy starts with what your buyers actually search for — and ends with what happens after they become a lead.

We connect search demand, campaign structure, landing pages, conversion signals and CRM feedback into one system.

How to Choose a B2B Google Ads Agency

Choose a B2B Google Ads agency by how it handles search terms, conversion tracking, landing pages and lead quality — not by the size of its client logo wall. In B2B the account is rarely lost on bidding; it is lost on buying the wrong searches and optimizing toward the wrong conversions.

These are the six criteria worth checking before you sign, and the warning signs that usually appear long before performance does.

    Search-Term Ownership

They talk about queries, not just keywords.

    • •Reviews search terms and n-grams, not only keyword lists
    • •Separates brand, non-brand and competitor traffic
    • •Has an opinion on broad match and Performance Max
    • •Can explain which searches they would refuse to buy

    Conversion Tracking Competence

Tracking is discussed before budget is.

    • •Asks about your CRM in the first conversations
    • •Knows GCLID capture and offline conversion imports
    • •Distinguishes primary and secondary conversion actions
    • •Uses conversion values, not raw form fills, for bidding

    Landing Pages Included

The click is only half the job.

    • •Builds campaign-specific pages, not just ads
    • •Owns message match between query, ad and page
    • •Does not blame your website for weak results
    • •Can ship changes without waiting on another vendor

    Lead Quality Over CPL

They report on pipeline, not dashboards.

    • •Reports qualified leads and opportunities, not clicks
    • •Willing to reduce lead volume to improve fit
    • •Explains where budget was wasted, not only what worked
    • •Ties spend to deals with your sales team's input

    Seniority On Your Account

You want the specialist, not the org chart.

    • •The person in the pitch is the person who works on it
    • •Direct access, not layers of account management
    • •B2B experience with long sales cycles, not ecommerce only
    • •Enough accounts seen to recognise patterns quickly

    Honesty About Fit

A good agency will tell you when not to buy.

    • •Says clearly if search demand is too small for your category
    • •Recommends other channels when Google is the wrong fit
    • •Gives you account ownership and full data access
    • •No long lock-in before results can even be measured

    Red Flags to Watch For

    • •Guaranteed lead numbers or a fixed cost per lead before seeing your account
    • •Reporting that stops at clicks, impressions and CTR
    • •The agency owns the Google Ads account and you cannot export the data
    • •Everything runs in one campaign with brand and non-brand mixed together
    • •No interest in your CRM, sales feedback or which leads actually closed
    • •Search terms are never discussed and negative keyword lists barely exist

The first warning sign is usually not weak performance — it is an agency that cannot explain what it changed, or why it changed it.

    B2B Google Ads Agency FAQ

Clear answers to the questions B2B teams ask before hiring a Google Ads agency.

A B2B Google Ads agency plans and runs paid search for companies selling to other businesses: it decides which searches are commercially useful, builds and manages the campaigns around them, and connects the results to the CRM. In practice that means more than adjusting bids and adding keywords — it should assess search demand, structure campaigns, manage keywords and search terms, write ads, build or influence landing pages, set up conversion tracking and understand what happens to leads after they enter the CRM.

The objective is not simply to generate traffic or conversions inside Google Ads. It is to find commercially relevant searches and turn as much of that demand as possible into real business opportunities.

Google Ads for B2B differs in four ways: far lower search volume, much higher customer values, sales cycles measured in weeks or months, and very few final conversions to optimise on. B2B campaigns therefore often have lower search volume, higher customer values, longer sales cycles and fewer final conversions than B2C or ecommerce campaigns. That makes lead quality and conversion logic particularly important.

A campaign generating 50 cheap leads can be worse than a campaign generating five expensive leads if the five leads are companies that can realistically become customers.

Google Ads is right for your company if enough people already search for what you sell. The first question is therefore whether relevant search demand exists. People may search for your category, solution, problem, use case, competitors or close alternatives.

Google Ads generally works best when buyers already understand what they are looking for and there is enough commercially relevant search demand to capture. If that demand does not exist, another channel may be the better first investment.

Clicks without qualified leads usually means the campaigns are matching the wrong searches, or Google is optimising towards conversions that have no commercial value. There are several common causes. The campaigns may be appearing for searches that are only loosely relevant. Broad targeting may be combined with weak conversion signals. Google may be optimizing toward easy but commercially unimportant conversions. The landing page may attract the wrong expectations. Or the traffic may be relevant while problems exist later in the product, pricing or sales process.

We therefore look beyond CTR and CPL and investigate the entire path from the original search to the CRM outcome.

A good lead in B2B Google Ads is a company that matches your ideal customer profile, arrived from a commercially relevant search and has a realistic path to becoming a paying customer — not simply somebody who submitted a form. The person's original search should be relevant, they should understand the offer, fit the intended customer profile and have a realistic path toward becoming a paying customer.

Where possible, we evaluate campaigns based on qualified leads, opportunities, pipeline or customers rather than form submissions alone.

Optimise for customers whenever there is enough volume; otherwise optimise for the earliest signal that still correlates with revenue. Customers are the strongest signal when enough of them exist. In many B2B businesses, however, customer volume is too low and sales cycles are too long for Google to optimize only around final purchases.

In those cases, we use earlier signals such as trials, demos or qualified leads while continuously checking whether they remain correlated with actual business outcomes.

Yes, we use offline conversion tracking: wherever a client's CRM and systems allow it, we send later outcomes such as qualified leads, opportunities and closed deals back to Google Ads. Many important B2B outcomes happen after the website visit. A person may submit a form, enter the CRM, become sales-qualified and turn into a customer weeks later.

Offline conversion tracking can send those later outcomes back to Google so that campaign performance can be judged — and potentially optimized — using information closer to revenue.
